May O'Hanlon died on 9 January 2001 at age 82. Her daughter Margaret told me that May was taken ill at Christmas with pneumonia. Just before that she had been very strong and happy. Margaret said She's been chesty in the winter for most of her life and took the pneumonia to be just another bout. She went to Cork to be with her daughter and family and needed to be taken to hospital. She returned home and was hospitalised again. It was a comfort that all the family were able to get to her before she died.3

She was prone to bronchitis and needed to take care of herself in the winter.4
