Alice Mary Donohoe, daughter of Joseph Donohoe and Mary Donohie, was born in 1904 in Ashford.^2,3 Alice Mary Donohoe married Richard Fitzpatrick, son of Richard Fitzpatrick and Ellen Giffney,^1,3 and died on 5 February 1984 in Ashford.^2,3

Michael Giffney, son of Michael Giffney and Ellen Nugent, was born on 21 November 1859 at Wicklow. His sponsors were James Stendon (?) and Maria Braethen.¹ Michael Giffney also went by the name of Sonny.²

Dick Fitzpatrick provided a photo of the Giffney home in October 2003. He said in his covering letter:

The thatched house was the Giffney family home. It is still inhabited though the roof is now tiled and there have been a few other alterations. These changes have occured within the last twenty years or so.

The workshop was on the left - only a small part is shown. The note at the bottom of the photo was put there by the local auctioneer but, to the best of my knowledge, there was never a forge there. The Giffneys were carpenters and builders.

The wall on the right is all that remains of a small glasshouse which, when I was much younger, Michael "Sonny" Giffney had. He was the head gardener at Mount Usher Gardens. It would seem that Sonny also lived in the thatched cottage with his wife.³

Dick Fitzpatrick also provided a copy of the auctioneer's details for the Old Forge as he called the Giffney family home which was sold about 2003. It decribed the property in glowing terms and it must have been a very attractive buy. The asking price was 525,000 Euros.⁴

Michael Giffney was the Head Gardener at Mount Usher Gardens⁵ and was highly regarded by the horticultural enthusiasts.⁶

Note: Dick Fitzpatrick said that a Michael Giffney and a Richard Fitzpatrick are mentioned in some newspaper articles which have been quoted in a book about Ashford.⁷

Laurence Giffney, son of Michael Giffney and Ellen Nugent, was born on 20 August 1862 in Wicklow. The sponsors at his baptism were Pat Cooney and Sarah Nugent.¹

Maria Giffney, daughter of Michael Giffney and Ellen Nugent, was born on 8 September 1867 in Ashford. The sponsors at her baptism were Joannes Murphy and Margarita Nugent.¹

Honeria Mary Giffney, daughter of Michael Giffney and Ellen Nugent, was born at Ashford on 15 October 1868.¹ Honeria Mary Giffney was baptised on 17 October 1868 at Ashford, Co Wicklow. The two sponsors at her baptism were John Reilly and Kate Kane..¹

William Giffney, son of Michael Giffney and Ellen Nugent, was born in Ballinahinch on 8 February 1876.¹ William Giffney was baptised on 19 February 1876 in Ashford, Co Wicklow. The two sponsors were Michael Giffney and Frances Giffney..¹

Patrick Giffney was baptised on 3 October 1878 in Ashford, Co Wicklow. The sponsors were Richard Fitzpatrick and Ellen Hender..¹ He, son of Michael Giffney and Ellen Nugent, was born in Ballinahinch, Ashford, County Wicklow, on 3 October 1878.^1,2 Patrick Giffney granted adminisrtration of his father's estate on 29 June 1900. Michael Giffney's effects were valued at £85 12s.²

Arthur Fitzpatrick was born in Ashford.² He married Eliza Hall, daughter of Patrick Hall and Anne Power, in 1850.^1,2
