Edward Benney, son of Richard Benny and Catherine Haughton, was born on 11 February 1842 in St Columb Major, Cornwall,1,2,3,4,5 and was baptised there on 23 March 1842.1 Edward Benney married Jane Liddicoat, daughter of Richard Liddicoat and Phillipa Rowe, on 24 June 1882 at St Columb Major6,5,7 and died there after 1891.2,4,8

In 1861 he was a Printer's Apprentice becoming a Printer and Compositor by 18819,10 but in in 1891 he was a self-employed Painter.5
