He had a mild stroke on the Monday before Christmas 1983 whilst staying at a hotel in Torquay.¹³ Stanley Ernest Thorne died later on, 30 August 1984, at age 74 at Southend Hospital, Southend-on-Sea, from chronic lymphatic leukaemia.^1,4,11 His National Insurance number was ZA519248C.¹⁸
