There is a passage in Dermot Dorgan's book about the history of Ballyouskill that refers to a local man called Hugh Toole who was also in the RIC and remembers the Mooneys:

He often spoke of the men from his native locality who served with him, men like the Mooneys of Lower Grennan, of whom all four sons joined the force in which their father and an uncle had served before them. He was fortunate in his 'Depot days' that Paddy Mooney was a Head Constable there at the time, and to Hugh's benefit the spirit of neighbourliness transcended the strict Victorian regimentation which separated the ranks.

A similar situation applied when he served with Andrew Mooney later during the stirring days in Clare. Andrew, who received all his education in Ballouskill N.S. where his Aunt was Principal, rose to the full commissioned rank of Divisional (sic) Inspector. This he achieved by educational success, winning in the process the coveted police award of the Queen's Gold Watch.14

William Mooney died on 7 June 1934 at age 70 at 49 Rathdown Road, Dublin.9,4 He was buried at Glasnevin.4

Hannah Hardingcame from Tipperary SR.5 She was the niece of the famous Maurice Davin after whom a GAA Park in Carrick-on-Suir is named and who was Dermot Dorgan's father's favourite uncle.

The following appeared on the internet on 12 October 2002:

MAURICE DAVIN had the same pride in native customs that fostered manliness. His concern was to preserve the dignity and vindicate the prestige of native athleticism and rescue it from humiliating alien influences. As one of an outstanding family of athletes, he resented these and no one was better fitted to lead the revolt against them. For this and because of his personal prowess in the arena, Maurice Davin may justly be acknowledged as the "Father of Modern Irish Athletics'". He was born in Carrick-on-suir, Co. Tipperary, 29th June 1842 and died on 26th January 1927.1,6

Hannah Harding married Willie Mooney on 12 February 1896. The marriage was solemnized in the RC Chapel of St Joseph's, Berkely Road, Dublin, in the Registrar's District of No 1 North City in the Union of North Dublin in the County of City of Dublin by John Byrne CC. They were both described as of full age; William as a bachelor and Hannah as a spinster. The witnesses were Patk J Mooney and Elizabeth Harding. There was no issue.1,4,5,3,7,8

It is not known where they lived after they were married but they are known to have lived at some time at 49 Rathdown Road, North Circular Road, Dublin 7.4,9,10 Hannah Harding lived at 28 Whitworth Road, Drumcondra, at the time of the marriage3 and was described as a Lady on her marriage record.3 Sometime after her husband died Hannah lived in Carrick-on-Suir.11,6

Hannah died on 22 April 1964 in a private nursing home, at Linden Care Home, Stillorgan, Blackrock, Dublin,11,12 and was buried at Glasnevin Cemetary. With Pat Harding and her sister Lizzie.

A newspaper notice said:

Mooney (Dublin) - April 22 1964, at a private nursing home, Blackrock, Hannah, late of Carrick-on-Suir, relict of William Mooney; deeply regretted. R.I.P. Remains will arrive at St. Peter's Church, Phibsborough, this (Thursday) evening at approx. 5.30 o'c. Funeral after 10 o'c. Mass to-morrow (Friday) to Glasnevin Cemetary.11,13
She left £100 to her mother and £400 to her niece May.13

In a letter written on on 22 December 1954 Sister Killian Stafford said of Hannah:

She is in tip-top form and still able to go about the city. She is a very cheery soul and writes to me faithfully.14
