Edward Shaw Loft was born on 3 October 1874 at 3 Browns Entry, High Street, Hull, E. Yorks.1,2,4,3,5 and married Ellen Eastwood, daughter of Robert Eastwood and Annie M Eastwood, at Selby Abbey, Selby, on Saturday 9 May 1896 by Banns. The marriage certificate states that Ellen was 19 years old whereas she was only sixteen years and eight months old, her birth certificate giving her birth as 5th August 1879.1,6,7,8,3

Edward Shaw Loft died on 2 April 1919 at age 44 at 6 Myrtle Avenue, Williamson Street, Hull, E. Yorks., from the Spanish Flu pandemic.1,9,10,11,3,5 He was buried on 5 April 1919 in the Hedon Road Cemetery.12,13

He had spoken with his wife Ellen in matter-of-fact terms saying what amounts to "should anything happen to me, Geoorge Hodgson will take good care of you". Ellen married Goerge two and ahalf years after Edward died.5 He was a Boatman 1891, a Keelman 1901, and a Master of Keel 'Olga' 1911.3

Edward Shaw Loft was a Keelman.4
